How to restart your eero network

💡 Need to know

  • Restart is not reset. Rebooting keeps your network settings.
  • Use the app when possible. It’s cleaner than pulling plugs.
  • Restart the modem too. eero can’t fix a modem that’s stuck.
  • Expect a short outage. Wi-Fi will drop while everything comes back online.

Restarting an eero® network is one of the simplest ways to clear slow speeds, dropped connections, app weirdness, or smart home devices that suddenly forgot how Wi-Fi works. It does not erase your network, change your password, or remove your devices.

Asurion Experts help people troubleshoot home networks every day, and restarting is usually the first safe step because it refreshes the system without making you rebuild it. Here’s how to restart eero the right way—and how not to accidentally reset it.

Restart vs. reset: what’s the difference?

Restarting means turning the eero network off and back on. Your network name, password, settings, profiles, and connected devices stay in place.

Resetting is different. A hard reset can remove the eero from the network and erase settings.

So if the goal is a quick refresh, restart. Do not hold the reset button because it looked available and mysterious.

Restart your eero network in the app

If the eero app is working, use it. General steps may vary slightly by app version, but the path is usually:

  1. Open the eero app.
  2. Tap the network or device status area.
  3. Choose the eero you want to restart.
  4. Look for Restart eero or a restart option.
  5. Confirm the restart.
  6. Wait for the eero to come back online.

To restart the whole network, look for a network restart option in the app settings or restart each eero one at a time.

Wi-Fi will briefly disconnect. That is expected. Warn anyone on a video call before you become the household villain.

Restart eero by unplugging it

If the app is not responding, restart manually.

  1. Unplug the eero from power.
  2. Wait about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in.
  4. Wait for the LED to show it is online.
  5. Repeat for other eeros if needed.

Start with the main eero connected to the modem, then restart additional eeros.

If you are troubleshooting no internet, restart the modem first, then the main eero.

Restart the modem and eero together

For broader connection problems:

  1. Unplug the modem from power.
  2. Unplug the main eero.
  3. Wait about 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the modem back in.
  5. Wait until the modem is fully online.
  6. Plug the main eero back in.
  7. Wait for eero to come online.
  8. Plug in or restart the other eeros.

This order matters. The modem provides the internet connection; eero distributes it. Bringing the modem online first gives eero something to work with.

Should you restart eero regularly?

You shouldn’t need to restart eero on a schedule if everything is working. Modern mesh systems are designed to run continuously.

Restart when:

  • Internet is slow across several devices.
  • Wi-Fi devices keep disconnecting.
  • The eero app can’t manage the network.
  • Smart home devices won’t reconnect.
  • A recent outage affected the modem.
  • You moved an eero to a new spot.
  • The network seems stuck after an update.

If you feel like you have to restart weekly just to keep the network alive, something else needs attention—placement, modem health, provider signal, software, or device load.

What to check after restarting

After eero comes back online:

  1. Confirm the app shows the network as online.
  2. Check the LED status on each eero.
  3. Run a speed test near the main eero.
  4. Test Wi-Fi in the room that had trouble.
  5. Check smart home devices.
  6. Confirm cameras, speakers, and TVs reconnect.

FAQ

Does restarting eero delete settings?

No. Restarting simply reboots the device or network. Your Wi-Fi name, password, and settings should stay the same.

Is restarting eero the same as resetting it?

No. Restarting is a reboot. Resetting can erase settings or remove the eero from the network, depending on the reset type.

How long does eero take to restart?

It usually takes a few minutes for the network to drop, reboot, and reconnect. Give it time before restarting again.

Should I restart my modem or eero first?

For full network troubleshooting, unplug both, then bring the modem online first. After the modem is ready, plug in the main eero.

How often should I reboot eero?

Only when there’s a problem. If regular restarts are necessary, the real issue probably hasn’t been fixed yet.
