How to set up a new iPad for your business
When you get a new iPad® ready for your business—whether it's a brand-new upgrade for an executive or a first-time setup for a new employee—getting it ready for work quickly is essential. The good news is that the process is generally straightforward.
However, managing multiple devices and ensuring they are secure can take time away from running your company. That’s where Verizon Business Complete comes in. With included Verizon Mobile Device Management (MDM) and 24/7 expert tech support for getting devices up and running, you can manage your business, not your tablets.
If you are setting up a device on your own, here is our step-by-step guide on how to set up a new business iPad.
The easiest way to set up business devices
Before you begin a manual setup, consider how you manage your company’s technology. Running your business is your job; managing smart devices is ours.
Instead of getting bogged down in device management, let Verizon Business Complete handle the heavy lifting. This plan combines unlimited talk, text, and data with premium protection against loss, theft, and damage. It also features Verizon Mobile Device Management (MDM) so you can effortlessly deploy apps, manage security policies, and perform remote wipes. Add in 24/7 expert tech support for onboarding and troubleshooting, and your IT team can get back to focusing on your actual business.
How long does it take to set up a new Samsung business tablet?
Most individual setups take 10–20 minutes. Restoring from an iCloud® backup can take longer depending on your company Wi-Fi speed and how much data you're transferring. If you run into roadblocks, Verizon Business Complete gives you access to tech experts who can help troubleshoot setups instantly.
Use Quick Start for a seamless transfer
If an employee is upgrading from an older company iPad to a new one, Quick Start makes it easy to transfer all the apps, data, and settings automatically. Follow these steps on how to set up an iPad from an old iPad using Quick Start:
- Make sure the current iPad has Bluetooth turned on, and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Complete an iCloud backup for the current iPad if possible.
- Turn on the new iPad, and place it near the old iPad.
- Wait for an alert to appear on the old iPad, then press Continue.
- Use the old iPad's camera to scan the pairing animation on the new iPad.
- Select Set Up for Me.
- On the new iPad, enter the old iPad's passcode.
Configure your iPad settings manually
If you are setting up an iPad for a new employee and don't have an old device to transfer from, follow these manual setup steps:
- Turn on the new iPad.
- Select your secure company Wi-Fi network, enter the password, and tap Join.
- If prompted to install a software update, select Update Now or Update Later.
- On the Appearance page, select how large you would like text and icons to display, then press Continue.
- On the Quick Start page, select Set up Without Another Device.
- On the Data & Privacy page, select Continue.
- Set up either Face ID® or Touch ID® to keep business data secure, and press Continue when prompted.
- Create a secure six-digit iPad passcode, or select Passcode Options, and choose a Custom Alphanumeric Code for tighter security.
Sign in and restore your business data
Next, sign in with your Apple Account (formerly called Apple ID). If your company uses managed Apple Accounts, enter those credentials now.
- If you're using Quick Start and reach the Transfer Your Apps & Data screen, choose From iCloud Backup to use your most recent backup.
- If you're using a manual setup for a brand-new device, select Don't Transfer Anything.
At the end of the process, your new iPad will restart. Keep in mind that apps and data will continue to download in the background.
Finalize your iPad features and security
There are additional settings you can adjust after the initial setup. Enable Siri®, set up Apple Pay® for corporate expenses, and use Screen Time to limit usage.
Pro Tip: If your device is enrolled in Verizon Business Complete, this is the perfect time to ensure your Verizon Mobile Device Management (MDM) profiles are active. MDM helps your business effectively manage the device, push necessary work apps, and enforce security policies to help keep mobile data protected.
