How to change the keyboard backlight on an ASUS laptop using ASUS Aura

On certain ASUS models, particularly gaming laptops like those in the ROG series, you can customize the keyboard lighting to fit your style or mood.

To customize the keyboard light, you’ll need ASUS Aura Sync®. If it is not installed on your laptop, download it from the ASUS website. Go to the support section, search for your laptop model, and download the software.

  1. Open the ASUS Aura app on your computer. You can find it on your desktop, in the Start menu, or by searching for "aura" in the Windows search bar.
  2. Locate the Lighting Control section where you can manage the lighting effects for your keyboard. In this section, explore the options to adjust brightness, change colors, and select lighting effects such as static, breathing, strobing, or color cycling.

After setting up your preferences, click Save or Apply to apply the new settings. For quick adjustments, you can also use function key combinations, likei Fn + arrow keys, to change the backlight brightness or switch between different lighting modes without opening the ASUS Aura software.

How to fix common issues

Despite the simplicity of turning on and customizing your ASUS keyboard backlight, you might encounter some hurdles. If your keyboard light refuses to turn on or if you're facing issues with brightness adjustments, here are a few steps for troubleshooting:

Check your model

Make sure that your ASUS laptop model features a backlit keyboard. Not all models come with this feature.

Check battery power

Some ASUS laptops automatically turn off the keyboard backlight when the battery is low to save power. Make sure your laptop is charged up or plugged in.

Restart your laptop

A simple restart can sometimes resolve the issue, as it refreshes the system and the drivers controlling the keyboard lighting.

Update drivers

Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers can hinder the backlight functionality. If your drivers are behind, you can visit the ASUS support website and download the latest version of the keyboard driver or contact an expert.

Enable in BIOS

In rare instances, the keyboard backlight might be off in the BIOS settings. Restart your laptop, and upon startup, press F2 or Del to enter BIOS settings. Look for an option related to the keyboard lighting and make sure it's on.
