Ring® cameras instantly upgrade your home security, making it easy to see and communicate with whoever’s at your door. Your camera must be connected to the internet to access all these features.

If you notice your Ring camera has gone offline, don’t stress. It’s often a quick fix to get the camera back online.

At Asurion, our experts have seen it all when it comes to smart home security devices like Ring cameras. We’re here to help you fix your tech issues, from checking your Ring camera motion sensor range to getting it back online. Try these steps if your Ring camera keeps going offline.

Why does your Ring camera go offline?

If your Ring app shows your camera's status as “offline,” you won’t be able to watch new live video from the camera or receive new alerts.

Check and improve your Wi-Fi connection

If your Ring camera keeps going offline, start by checking your Wi-Fi connection in the Ring app.

  1. Open the Ring app and go to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap the three dots next to the Ring camera that’s offline.
  3. Select Settings > Device Health.
  4. Under the Network section, check the signal strength.

Ring cameras work best on 2.4GHz—not 5GHz. Switch networks if needed.

If issues continue, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. You can also move the Ring camera closer to the router.

Restart and reconnect your Ring camera

For a wired Ring camera, unplug it for 10 seconds before plugging it back in. With a battery model, remove the battery for 10 seconds before reinserting it.

Then, go back into your Ring app and follow these steps:

  1. Tap the three dots next to the camera that’s not connected.
  2. Select Settings > Device Health.
  3. Select Reconnect.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

Update firmware and perform a full reset

Complete a full reset with these steps:

  1. Find the setup button on your device.
  2. Press the setup button for 20 seconds and then let it go.
  3. The device will enter setup mode.
  4. Reconnect the Ring camera to your Wi-Fi.
