How to record a voicemail message on your iPhone 

Here’s how to record a custom voicemail message on your iPhone using the built-in Phone app. 

1. Open the Phone app. 
2. Tap Voicemail> Greeting. 
3. If you haven’t changed your default voicemail greeting (Default will be checked), tap Custom. If you previously recorded a custom message (Custom will be checked), skip this step. 
4. Tap Record and dictate your voicemail greeting.
5. Tap Stop when your message is complete. 
6. Tap Play to listen to your message.
7. If you like your message, tap Save. To re-record it, tap Record again, dictate a new greeting, and then tap Stop when you’re done. 
8. To review your message, tap Play. To save it, tap Save.

How to record a voicemail greeting if you have two phone numbers 

If you have two phone numbers set up on your iPhone, you can record two voicemail greetings, one for each number. Just make sure you select the correct number for each message. Here’s how:

1. Open the Phone > Voicemail > Greeting.
2. Select a phone number. 
3. Tap Custom > Record, then say your voicemail greeting. 
4. Tap Stop > Play > Save. 

What to do if you can’t record a voicemail greeting on your iPhone

Having trouble recording a voicemail message? Here are some fixes to try:

Set up voicemail 

If you don’t see the Greeting option when you tap Voicemail, make sure your voicemail has been set up. Here’s how:

1. Open the Phone app. 
2. Tap Voicemail > Set Up Now. 
3. Create a password, then tap Done. 
4. Re-enter your password and tap Done to confirm.

If you’ve set up your voicemail but can’t record a greeting using the Phone app, dial *86 then choose option 4 to change your message.
