Setting up a Blink™ camera can be a major life convenience, whether you're looking to enhance your home security, check in on your pets while at work, or just make sure your packages don't walk away.

Asurion tech care is available for all your family's electronics, from gaming consoles to smart devices—including smart cameras. Here’s how you can make Blink camera setup a breeze.

What tools do you need to set up a Blink camera?

From monitoring your home through live video feeds to sending alerts to your phone, a Blink smart camera can help streamline how you handle your home’s security.

Before you get started, make sure you have the necessary tools on hand. You'll need your Blink camera, its mounting kit, and your AA batteries or power adapters. A smartphone is also essential for connecting the camera to the Blink app.

How to set up a Blink camera

Let's get into the specifics of configuring your Blink camera with a few straightforward steps:

  1. Create a Blink account

Connecting to the Blink App is your first step toward a fully functional home security system. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Download the Blink Home Monitor app from the Google Play® Store or the Apple® App Store®. Then, open the Blink App and tap Create Account at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select your country, and tap Next. Confirm your region, and tap OK.
  3. Enter your email address, and tap Next. Then, create a password, and tap Create Account.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the authentication process. When the phone verification step is complete, you can link your new Blink account to your Amazon™ account by tapping Link Accounts. If you prefer not to link your account at this time, select Skip to proceed to the Home screen without linking your accounts.

Linking your account is optional. However, if you plan to have an active subscription for your smart cameras—so you can use premium options like person detection, extended live view, and unlimited video recording—you have to link your Amazon™ account to your Blink camera.

2. Set up your Blink camera

Once you've unpacked everything and installed the app, it's time to set up your Blink camera.

Depending on your camera, you may need a Sync Module (usually sold separately or as part of a bundle). The wireless outdoor and indoor (3rd Gen) smart cameras need access to your home’s Wi-Fi network and a Sync Module.

Connecting a Sync Module

  1. From the Blink Home Monitor app’s Home screen, tap the + icon to add a device.
  2. Select the Sync Module. Then, use your phone to scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually. Follow the onscreen instructions to add your Blink Sync Module.
  3. You will be asked to create a new system. Enter a unique name for your system, and tap Continue.
  4. Plug in your Sync Module, and wait for it to begin blinking blue and steady green light pattern. If you don’t see that light pattern after 30 seconds, press the Sync Module’s Reset button and try discovering the device again.
  5. Once you see this light pattern, tap Discover Device to connect your Sync Module.
  6. Connect to the Sync Module's temporary Wi-Fi network named “BLINK-[xxxx]”(the four digits are from your Sync Module's serial number), then tap Join.
  7. After successfully joining the temporary network, you’ll connect to your home Wi-Fi. Enter your Wi-Fi password, and tap Join.
  8. Once your Sync Module is added to the network, a completion screen will appear. Tap Done to finish the setup process and start adding your cameras.

Connecting a Blink camera

  1. In the Blink app, select your new Blink device.
  2. Remove the plastic stopper on the back of the camera and use the plastic screwdriver that came with it to access its information. You can grant your camera permission to scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually.
  3. While you have the camera open, you can insert the batteries. Once done, reconnect the back of the camera and screw everything back in place. Then, follow the onscreen instructions to add your Blink camera.
  4. Customize settings like camera name, motion detection, and video quality through the app.
  5. Mount your Blink camera

The final step in your Blink camera installation is putting it in the perfect spot.

  1. If you haven’t already, insert the batteries or connect the power adapter to turn on your Blink camera and follow the setup steps from the previous section.
  2. Choose the right mount for the best viewing angle: Connect the camera directly to the volcano mount for vertical surfaces like walls or posts, or use the right-angle adapter for horizontal surfaces like ceilings or shelves.
  3. With the appropriate mount attached, pick a spot that gives you a clear view of the area you want to monitor. You’ll want to avoid areas with excessive backlighting and obstructions, like furniture or trees, that could make the foreground appear too dark or block the camera’s view.
  4. Using the screws provided in the mounting kit, secure the camera's mount to your chosen spot. For Blink outdoor camera installation, ensure the location is sheltered from direct rain and extreme temperatures.
  5. Slide your Blink camera onto the mount, and adjust it to cover the desired area.

After mounting your camera, open Live View in the Blink app to check the field of view. If adjustments are needed, gently tilt and rotate the camera by hand to fine-tune the viewing angle.
