4 methods for screen mirroring your Google Pixel

There are multiple ways to mirror your Google Pixel screen to a TV or similar device.

Using Chromecast

Google Chromecast™ devices act as a facilitator for streaming video and audio content to TVs. If you own a Chromecast device, use it to mirror your Google Pixel screen on the TV.

  1. Attach the Google Chromecast device to your preferred TV. Turn the TV on.
  2. Verify that the Google Chromecast device and Google Pixel are using the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Begin playing the content you want to stream on the Google Pixel phone.
  4. Swipe down from the top of your Google Pixel to access Quick Settings.
  5. Tap the This phone button that appears on top of your media. Tap the name of the Chromecast device to mirror your screen to the TV.

If you have the Google Home™ mobile application installed on your phone, you can use it to initiate screen mirroring with Chromecast.

  1. Confirm that the Chromecast device and Google Pixel are using the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap the Cast button.
  4. Tap the name of the Chromecast device to start a streaming session.
  5. The Cast button turns solid when you're fully connected.

Mirroring via Miracast

Miracast™ is a screen mirroring tool that comes pre-installed on many smart TVs. To mirror your Google Pixel's screen using Miracast, follow these steps.

  1. Verify that the Google Pixel and TV are using the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open the TV's settings menu. Look for the input or source menu and turn on screen mirroring. The option may be called Miracast, Wireless Display, or Screen Sharing, depending on the TV model you have.
  3. Swipe down from the top of the Google Pixel to access the Quick Settings menu.
  4. Tap the Screen Cast icon.
  5. Tap the name of your TV to initiate screen mirroring.

Use a cable

Google Pixel 8 and later devices allow users to project their smartphone's screen with a USB-C to HDMI cable.

  1. Plug the HDMI cable into the TV or other display device.
  2. Plug the USB-C end of the cable into the Google Pixel.
  3. Wait for the Mirror display prompt to appear on the smartphone. Tap it when it appears.
  4. Follow the prompts to confirm the connection.

Third-party tools

A quick search in the Google Play™ store uncovers multiple third-party apps that support screen mirroring from smartphones to TVs and other display monitors. If none of the earlier options work for you, try installing one of the apps. Keep in mind that Google doesn't oversee third-party screen mirroring apps, so quality isn't assured.

Some apps may charge a fee or display occasional ads in exchange for the service provided. Read the app's instructions and customer reviews to determine whether it seems like a good fit for you.

How to provide a seamless Pixel screen share experience

You need a strong Wi-Fi connection to minimize lag when streaming media from your Google Pixel to a TV. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, you may notice frequent interruptions.

If Wi-Fi strength is a problem, try moving the router closer to your devices. Also, make sure the smartphone is close to the TV. The further away it is, the harder the TV works to find the signal.

Also, make sure your Google Pixel has the latest software installed. Sometimes updates come out that improve the screen mirroring function. You can check for updates by doing the following:

  1. Open Settings on your Google Pixel.
  2. Tap System > Software update
  3. If any updates are available, follow the prompts to install them.

Common screen mirroring issues

Having trouble with Google Pixel display sharing? Try these troubleshooting solutions.

Wi-Fi connectivity problems

Chromecast and Miracast require both devices to use the same Wi-Fi network when screen sharing. If your Google Pixel isn't connected to the local Wi-Fi network, the TV or other display monitor can't receive media streamed from your device.

Incompatibility with Miracast or Chromecast

Older smart TVs may not have Miracast installed on them. And if you don't have a Chromecast device, screen sharing won't work. If an incompatibility problem arises, try using another display monitor or TV instead.

Resetting the connection

If you experience ongoing interruptions when screen sharing, stop the connection. Turn off your Google Pixel and the TV you're using. Turn the devices on again and re-establish a new connection using your preferred method.
