How to connect your Ring Doorbell to Alexa
Are you getting the most out of your smart home devices? Having a Ring® Video Doorbell is great for playing back recordings of every visitor or package drop-off, but it’s limited to the Ring app. If you have an Amazon Echo® Show smart device, you can create your very own front door intercom system with hands-free video and audio.
More gadgets, fewer problems. Asurion tech care covers all your family's devices, from gaming consoles to smart devices—including your video doorbell. Here’s how to connect your Ring Video Doorbell to your Alexa™ device, so you can manage your home security efficiently from anywhere in your house.
Why connect your Ring Video Doorbell to your Alexa?
Before you begin, it’s important to understand how the Ring Video Doorbell and Amazon™ Alexa can work together to create a more responsive and interactive home security system. This integration allows you to access live video feeds, communicate with visitors, and receive motion alerts directly through your Alexa-enabled devices—no more reaching for your phone when the doorbell rings.
Don’t have an Amazon Echo Show? You can still get front door announcements or talk to the front door while you’re in range of an Alexa speaker. Ring devices are compatible with most Alexa-enabled smart devices, like the Echo Spot®, Echo Dot®, both the standard Fire TV® Stick and Fire TV® Stick 4K, Fire TV® (version 2 and above), Fire TV® Cube, and Fire tablets (version 7 and above).
Will Alexa work with your Ring® Video Doorbell?
Yes, Alexa is compatible with all versions of Ring Video Doorbells. Linking your Ring Video Doorbell with Alexa enhances your smart home by providing hands-free control and instant access to your doorbell's video feed.
How to connect your Ring Video Doorbell to Alexa
To get started, ensure both your Alexa and Ring devices are updated to the latest firmware to avoid any connectivity issues (all those devices need to complete available software updates is an internet connection). Follow these steps to link your Ring Video Doorbell with your Alexa:
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device. Make sure you’re logged in with the same account linked to your Echo devices.
- Tap More > Skills & Games and then tap the Search icon. Enter “Ring skill” using the search bar. Select the Ring skill, and tap Enable to Use.
- Select Enable Skill & Link Accounts. You will be prompted to sign in to your Ring account. Enter your credentials to authorize Alexa to access your Ring devices. If your account is already linked, tap Enable Skill.
- After linking your accounts, tap Discover Devices. If your Ring devices don't appear, ask Alexa to discover new devices by using the voice command, “Alexa, discover my devices,” or manually trigger the discovery by going to Devices > + > Add Device > Camera > Ring within the Alexa app.
- Once Alexa has discovered your Ring device, customize its settings in the Alexa app. You can name your device, assign it to a room, and manage notification settings.
- To make sure everything is set up correctly, test it by asking Alexa to show the live feed from your doorbell or by checking if doorbell motion alerts come through to your Echo device.
