Imagine being able to keep an eye on your home when you’re away or monitor your kids when they're in a different room. Convenient, right? With a wireless camera connection, you can do all that and have the peace of mind that your house and family are safe. That is, unless you’re having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi.

Don’t worry, though. Every day, Asurion experts help millions of customers get the most out of their tech. Whether you want to learn more about smart home security systems or protect your security systems from hackers, our experts can help. If you have an ADT® camera, here’s our guide on how to connect ADT doorbell cameras to Wi-Fi.

Access the ADT camera’s settings menu

ADT cameras have a settings menu you can access through a web portal.

  1. Connect the AC power adapter to your camera and plug it into an outlet.
  2. Your camera’s LED will start to flash white. If it doesn’t do this after two minutes, press the Reset button until the LED flashes white.
  3. On your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, turn on Wi-Fi.
  4. Look for a network named something like ADC-V523IR (XX:XX:XX). The XX:XX:XX refers to the last six digits of your camera’s MAC address, printed at the bottom of your camera or on the back of the packaging.
  5. Connect to this network.
  6. Open a browser, type 192.168.1.1, and hit the search function. This will take you to your camera’s setup page.

Select the Wi-Fi network from the list

Once you have accessed your camera setup page, follow the onscreen guidelines to open your camera’s Wi-Fi settings. Click Scan to find available networks for your camera. From the available network list, select your desired Wi-Fi network.

If your network isn’t on the list, check if the camera is within range of the Wi-Fi signal and that the network functions properly.

Choose your new Wi-Fi network credentials

After selecting a Wi-Fi network option for your camera, you’ll be prompted to enter the network’s password—key in the credentials. Then, hit the Submit button. The camera will try to connect to the network. This process may take a few moments, so be patient.

Verify the camera’s connection status

If the connection is successful, you should see a confirmation message in the web portal or an indicator light on the camera—like a solid green or blue light.

Troubleshooting common connection issues

Sometimes, you can follow all the steps on how to connect an ADT camera to new Wi-Fi but still can't get it to connect. If that’s the case, try these steps:

  • Confirm that the Wi-Fi password is correct. A simple typo in the Wi-Fi password can prevent your camera from connecting.
  • Check signal strength. The signal might be too weak if your camera is far from the router. You want to ensure your camera is within the range of your Wi-Fi signal.
  • Restart the camera and router. A quick restart can resolve minor glitches and refresh the connection between your devices.
  • Confirm compatibility. Most ADT cameras only work with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks, not 5GHz. Check your router’s settings to confirm which network your camera is trying to connect to.
  • Reset your camera. If none of the above steps work, reset your camera to its factory settings. Hold down the Reset button for about 10 seconds. Once the camera restarts, try to establish a Wi-Fi connection again.
