Troubleshooting an LG dryer that’s not drying
Here are a few common causes for heating issues—along with some easy fixes—for an LG dryer that won’t heat.
Your dryer is unplugged
We’ve all been there. Your LG dryer could simply be unplugged. Before you start troubleshooting, check that it’s plugged into a power outlet.
Insufficient power
For both electric and gas dryer models, if your dryer won't heat, the problem may be with your power source. For an electric dryer, if one of the volt lines is damaged or not working, your dryer may spin but not heat. With gas, the dryer will run but won’t get hot if the gas isn’t on or reaching the appliance. Dealing with high-voltage electricity or flammable gasses without the proper training is dangerous. If you think insufficient power is your issue, contact a dryer repair professional.
The dryer drum is overloaded
Too many items packed too tightly in the drum prevent airflow, so the dryer won’t heat and your clothes won’t dry. To help with drying, keep the load to three-quarters full or less and limit heavy items, like towels or blankets.
The lint filter is clogged
If your LG dryer has no heat, check the lint filter. Lint in your trap can keep clothes from drying plus debris and lint buildup is a fire hazard. Make sure to clean your lint filter after every cycle.
The dryer vent is blocked
If your LG dryer isn’t heating, a blocked vent is a likely culprit. Our experts recommend cleaning
your dryer vent at least once a year, twice is better, especially if you use your appliance often. Check out our guide on how to clean your dryer vent safely.
The heating element is misaligned or broken
Over time, your dryer’s heating elements can shift or wear out, which could be the reason your LG dryer’s not drying. Inspect your heating element coils to make sure they’re positioned properly. (Check your owner’s manual if you need help). If you think the heating element may be damaged, an appliance repair pro can help you replace it.
The thermostat isn’t working
The cycling thermostat adjusts the temperature in your dryer and the time it runs by sensing the dampness of your laundry. If the thermostat or sensor isn’t working properly, the drying cycle may be cut short and your clothes won’t dry. If you need help testing your cycling thermostat, call a repair pro.
