iOS 13: 5 features that will make life easier

Big changes are coming to your iPhone. Apple is set to release its latest software update, iOS 13, and with it comes a new design, and simpler ways to sign in and start enjoying your device and all of its possibilities. Asurion Experts have been busy discovering what's new in iOS 13 and we're sharing some of our favorite features and other improvements in the update.

But first, here are a few FAQ about Apple's iOS 13:

Will my iPhone work with iOS 13?

iOS 13 will not be released on devices that are older than the iPhone 6s. This means that that the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 are not compatible with iOS 13.

Here's a list of iPhones that will support iOS 13:

• iPhone: XS, XS Max, XR, X, 8, 8 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone SE
• iPod touch: 7th gen

Your iPad will also benefit from many of the new features for iOS 13, as well as a few new iPad-specific upgrades that are geared towards maximizing the larger screen. The new iPad update has its own name: iPadOS.

Here's a list of iPads that are compatible with iPadOS:

• iPad: mini 4, mini 5th gen, Air 2, Air 3rd gen, iPad (5th and 6th gen) and iPad Pro

When is the iOS 13 release date?

iOS 13 is expected to be available on all compatible devices starting on September 19, 2019.

How do I install iOS 13?

You should get a prompt on your iPhone when it's time to install iOS 13, or you can check for the update manually by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

What's new in iOS 13

Dark Mode comes to iPhone

Give your eyes a much needed break by switching to the all-new Dark Mode. It transforms your entire operating system, including your built-in apps, from the bright white and grey background to a deeper, darker hue.

Dark Mode can be set to automatically turn on at sunset, or you can schedule it to turn off and on at certain times. Here's how:

1. Open the Settings app, then tap Display & Brightness > Dark.
2. Turn on the Automatic option to switch at sunset and sunrise, or tap Options > Custom to set your own schedule.

Impressive new photo and video features

With iOS 13's new camera effects like Portrait Lighting, get ready to be inspired to snap memories over and over again. Fine-tune your best shots with easy-to-use editing tools and filters, and—here's the best part—you can now do the same for your videos. Easily crop, rotate and add filters to videos by tapping the Edit icon.

When you're done creating your photo and cinematic masterpieces, the Photos app will organize everything for you. Easily browse and share memories by day, month or year. The new iOS will also automatically hide duplicate shots and set your Live photos and videos on autoplay.

Take a Look Around with iOS 13's Maps

iOS 13's Maps has an all new, more realistic view. With the new 3D Look Around feature, you can explore places in real time before you arrive. Then, navigate your way around with more detailed depictions of roads, buildings, and everything in between.

Use your finger to pan 360-degrees with the Look Around feature, and enjoy seamless transitions.

Another way Maps is making life easier: Under Favorites, you can easily tap the places you visit the most, or create and share a Collection of ones you'd like to see on your next trip.

Better ways to keep your personal info safe

Sign in to the apps and websites you use every day with your Apple ID. It's secured with two-factor authentication and doesn't require you to enter a password each time. Instead, just tap the “Sign in with Apple” button, and use Face or Touch ID—it's that simple.

Note: The only information you may need to provide to the app or website is your name and email. But if you want to keep your regular email private, you can create a unique account with Apple.

A quicker, more expressive way to text

iOS 13's new QuickPath Typing feature makes texting with friends and family as simple as swiping left or right: no button pushing required. Want to add a boost of personality? Try the updated Memoji feature, which includes new makeup and hairstyles and new expressions that you can customize to look just like you.

Use your Memoji as a sticker (or static icon) in Messages, Mail, and other apps, right from your keyboard!
